MELBOURNE Victory midfielder Grant Brebner believes his team's shock defeat to Perth Glory was a loss they had to have to sharpen their focus for the A-League finals.
The Victory were stunned 3-2 on Sunday five days after knocking Adelaide off the top of the league to slide back to second place with two rounds remaining. The loss means the Victory's home match against fourth-placed Central Coast tomorrow night will be crucial to the finals make-up. But the experienced Brebner said a pre-finals defeat was always on the cards and would only have a positive effect on Melbourne's build-up to the finals. "We're still in a great position," Brebner said. "We've come off the back of three good wins, and whether it was Sunday or weeks and months ahead we were always going to lose a game. We regroup, go forward and try to win the remaining games."
