WA Government Send Emergency Officials and $1m to aid 2009 Victorian Bushfires
Wednesday February 11, 2009
The Western Australian Government yesterday sent fire and emergency officers to Victoria's bushfire disaster zone, as well as $1million to the Victorian Bushfire Relief fund.
A group made from WA Fire and Emergency Authority officers and the Department of Environment and Conservation made their way to help aid the 2009 Victorian bushfires.
"We stand ready as a state to provide whatever is requested from Victoria," said WA Premier, Colin Barnett on ABC Radio, about the government's decision to provide aid to the devastated area.
But Western Australia has bushfire problems of its own. Last week, an arsonist began a fire in Kings Park & Botanic Garden, Perth, which only stopped metres away from Perth suburb, Subiaco.
Perth residents have just been notified that they are at risk of encountering bushfires that may occur later this week due to high temperatures that could reach 40+ degrees Celsius, and strong winds.
