Saturday February 14, 2009

Perth, Western Australia, has suffered a high number of job losses in the midst of the economic crisis, since late last year.

In the mining sector, nearly 5,000 mining jobs have been cut in and around Perth, Western Australia as the global economy wanes.

Additionally, Telstra made 250 job cuts in its Geelong and Perth Credit Management call centres.

"This decision is a direct attack on Telstra workers, their families and the services they provide to the Australian community," said Louise Persse, national president from the Community and Public Sector Union.

Mount Gibson Iron, an iron miner based in Perth, Western Australia, has recently cut 190 jobs as a result of lack of interest in Australian resources from overseas in the economic meltdown.
