Perth Still an Expensive City to Live But Has Dropped Rank in Recession.

Saturday March 14, 2009

Perth retains its reputation as one of the world's most expensive cities to live.

The recent Worldwide Cost of Living Survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit listed Perth as the 57th most expensive city in the world to live in, which is a drop from the 35th position it held as on the list last year.

Cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Mexico City and Bucharest are all cheaper places to live than Perth.

However in Australia, Adelaide is the only capital that is cheaper to live. Brisbane and Perth tie, Melbourne rests in 39th place while Sydney is ahead ranking 35th.

Australia's falling dollar is said to be why Australian capital cities have become more affordable in the last 12 months with Sydney dropping from 17th place and Melbourne dropping from 24th since 2008.

Tokyo was ranked as the most expensive city in the world, Osaka coming second and Paris third.
