Tuesday March 3, 2009
The seven Miss Universe Australia crown finalists for Western Australia were announced on Friday night by a judge panel at the Beauty and Beach Ceremony at the Cottsloe Civic Centre in Perth last Friday evening.
Elizabeth Hall, Lia Papper, Kimberley Watson, Kim Eckhof, Samara Tugwell Juliana Nuic and Jaimee Peasley were told they were the successful applicants in fron of more than 1,300 at the event.
Organised by Troy Barbagallo and Greg Erskin, there is hope that the function will become an annual occurrence.
"Last night was a bit of a test, we we're only given the rights to it (WA Miss Universe finals) for one year but we've had some great feedback so fingers crossed we'll be doing it again next year," Mr Barbagallo said.
Judges, including Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and fashion aficionado Wayne Teo, were supposed to reduce the 21 contestants down to six finalists but announced seven had made it into the next round of the competition.
Event judge and organiser Sophia Ulgiati said, "It was pretty tough to take only seven"
"They all looked absolutely stunning. All the judges were really impressed."
