Western Australia Receives Tough Smoking Laws
Thursday May 7, 2009
Perth and West Australians who smoke could be fined up to $2000 for smoking at the beach or in cars carrying children.
News laws in Western Australia will have that smoking is banned between the flags at the beach, in alfresco areas of restaurants and cafes, in cars carrying children under the age of 16 years of age, and within 10 metres of playgrounds.
The state government backed MP Janet Woollard yesterday.
Dr Woollard originally had the Tobacco Products Control Amendment Bill to include a total ban on smoking in licensed outdoor areas of hotels.
Breaching the law will mean people face a $200 fine. Repeat offenders could receive a penalty of up to $2000.
