Wednesday June 10, 2009

A Perth taxi driver has been arrested after he deliberately drove into a police horse and attempted to ram into a Perth Police Station at Northbridge.

Perth police claim that at 3.40am a 26-year-old man was asked to leave Perth Police Station when he began arguing with staff. At around 4.10am, the man drove his taxi back into Northbridge and behind three police horses on patrol in Lake Street where he nudged one of the horses for about 5 metres.

The man then sped off along James Street until at the corner of William Street he crossed to the wrong side of the road narrowly missing another police officer. He then allegedly drove through a couple of red lights and arrived back at Perth Police Station, driving his car onto the footpath in front of the Perth Police Station.

Police removed him from his car and arrested him. He has been charged with failing to stop after an accident, failing to stop when called upon and willfully reckless driving and obstructive police. The man will appear in Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The horse was uninjured.
